Reflection on installation

When I was discussing my installation with my tutor he offered some valuable advice and suggested i create an option within the game to allow the signage to be turned on and off as the player requests it. this will allow us to gather a better understanding of whether or not the player requires help with navigation and actually following the signs or is just wondering around the map. This helps me analyise my research question better.

My Model in Crysis

Week 2- Realism

With my model I wanted to explore how much people really observe signs and whether they obey them in order to navigate effectively around a station. This also relates to how often the people have visited the place. Usually if it’s their first time in the environment signs are crucial in helping them navigate, but what if all the signs were actually the opposite of what they are intended for. For example: an Entry sign was really a one way exit or a toilet sign was really the door to the switch room. Will people actually come to terms that signs may be deceiving? Also if they begin to realise that the signs are actually the opposites of what they are saying, will the people use their own sense of direction to navigate themselves around or will they simply do the opposites of what the signs are saying.

The questions I hope to be answering in my simulation will be:
1) Do people observe signage and obey signage
2) Will people who have been to a place more than once remember the layout of the station or will they continue to use the signage for navigation?
3) Will people begin to realise that the signage is actually switched and will they rely on their own sense of direction to lead them or will they follow the opposite of what the signs say.

Model in progress

I decided to model in most of what I couldn't do in solid works in 3DS Max. These are wireframe rendering of my model so far.

EXPERIMENT 2 Week 1

Some methods used to measure aspects of a real site are:

- photography
-surveying
-site and floor plan measure ups
-aerial images
-video recording

To completely capture all correct elements of Town Hall a combination of methods need to be used in order to record accurate site detail. The first thing that I intend to do is Internet research to gather as much information as possible and ensure that I don't waste time while I'm there and double up on information. Google earth will give reasonably accurate images of the site and also has a ruler tool that measure approximate distances. I will also search for any surveys or architectural drawings already done on the site. And print out as much photos I can find to pre-draw as much of the site as possible before I go to measure up.
While at Town Hall I will take a tone of photos in a sequence to ensure that I know exactly the position of each element. We are organising a group of students to all go together so we can measure up and get as many measurements and detail as possible. Video recording may help to remember how the site is pieced together.

Week 4- Doc Modes

I intended for my documentary to create a basis for the films main argument, without stating a biased conclusion. In order to do this, I chose an observational documentary mode. This mode uses film to verify a set of tests and trails which are used forms conclusions from a particular hypothesis, without being biased and allowing the audience to decide. The main case put forward by the film was to examine the damage in which ordinary 'everyday' objects can have on an environment when it is in an extreme situation, in contrast to the damage caused by extreme explosives. During the documentary the before and after effects of both experiments are juxtaposition with each other and intentionally untitled so the viewer can interpret the effects for themselves. The main purpose for this experiment is to determine whether it is possible to create a type of desired destruction with using everyday objects rather than dangerous explosives. I believe my film has achieved this result.

Week 2- My Ramp & Explosives

The environment was created to have near by vegetation of different sizes, with each building having a differnt type of construction inorder to see the adverse effects different types of explosions would have on the structures and its surroundings.

Week 1- My Landscape

For my terrain I wanted to create something that was reasonably flat to allow for better local views and with a dense vegetation to create depth and visual appeal.
